Yomi Taniyama Kaori (Yuntanza Hanau)

Yomi Taniyama Kaori| Grand Mercure Okinawa Cape Zanpa Resort [Official]

Yomi Taniyama Kaori is a traditional Okinawan textile developed based on techniques that were handed down from China and Southeast Asia during the Ryukyu Kingdom era in the 14th century. The characteristic is that the flower pattern is expressed using a floating technique to create a geometric pattern. Using this technique, patterns such as windmills, money shapes, and inverted triangles are woven with meaning. In addition, it is also a feature of dyeing technology that uses natural dyes made from Okinawan trees to create vivid colors. It declined in the Meiji era and was temporarily forgotten after the Battle of Okinawa, but the reconstruction movement began in 1964, Okinawa Prefecture designated intangible cultural property in 1975, and a traditional craft designated by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry in 1976. It was certified as a craft. Today, it is widely recognized as a representative craft of Okinawa.

There is also a program where you can experience the technique of Yomi Taniyama Kaori. Why don't you experience textiles using traditional techniques?
